iPod touch 8GB – Awesome Portable Device
The 3rd gen 8GB iPod touch was a nice upgrade for me after owning the 1st gen ipod touch 16gb. Overall the touch is much faster. I noticed a huge difference when using applications graphics-intensive such as Google Earth, or games like Need for Speed. I was disapppointed no real change for the 3rd gen iPod touch 8GB from the 2nd gen. I was hoping at least for an increase in battery life. It appears that all the numbers online and apples webstie the 3rd gen iPod touch 8GB lost about 6 hours of playback time audio. The Gen 2 was a 36-hour music and games gen 3 has 30 hours of music playback.
Im guessing this maybe due to the rapid processor and chip set with perhaps draining the battery faster. The 3rd gen iPod touch 8 GB comes with the voice control feature that is found in other new iPods like the nano, shuffle and iPhone 3G. This feature can not be added with the 3.1 update to a current 2nd gen iPod touch, which is embedded in hardware. The voice feature is nice to have, but it which is not exactly intuitive. Unlike other voice features in other devices like cell phones where the phone will adapt and learn at their voice, the iPod touch does not have a learning resource. She wants to understand what he is saying or what not (in which case you have to repeat unitl yoursel does).
The Gen 3 also comes with the iPhone mic / earphone distance, which is a nice added feature. Easy to change volume or track and use the microphone for applications like Skype or shazam. Probably the main feature I really like about the Gen 3 is the speaker that I have on my first gen. Mind you its not really loud, but great to listen to podcasts as casual games and preveiws iTunes Store for songs. I really like the fact that now I can use my iPod touch 8GB make phone calls via VOIP.
Theres a very few applications available for this type: fring, skype, iCall, etc. The quality is very good considering your voip. The touch also has other features like the great transmiiter nike, bluetooth, copy and paste (finally). The only thing I wish also to touch and iPhone is the ability to multitask. Maybe someday Apple will eventually allow this. I think it's so old that comes from my blackberry bold that can run multiple applications at the same time. It becomes annoying sometimes when you just want to check the weather or email and its implementation another application.
The application which can only be executed in the background is music. But the music only iPod does not play any music application like last.fm or FlyCast. Overall I love the touch especially since I tried the iPod classic and did not like the click wheel at all. I also got a griffin purchsed browse remote which allows me to change tracks, volume, playlists and listen FM radio and a screen to see what song is playing. The 3rd gen iPod touch 8GB is a nice upgrade for me coming from my old 1st gen iPod touch.
If you has a 2nd gen ipod touch me do not really see the need to get the gen 3. Unless you run out of memory and need one or the 64GB will be doing a lot of games it. At this point there arent any games that can use the speed of the game has new touches. Other features of the 3rd generation can be updated on your own, such as the headset / microphone and remote update 3.1. Thus, the only missing features are his real voice control and faster processor / chip set.
