iPod takes FOREVER to sync

have an Apple iPod classic 80gb which I sync with Windows 7 computer. I was not facing any problems while syncing the iPod with the computer, but from few days the iPod takes FOREVER to sync. The iPod continuously displays the message saying “Ipod is being synchronized, do not disconnect” . I cannot figure out what is causing such problem and hence need your help. Thanks in advance.

There are many factors which are responsible for slow synchronization of iPod. When the iPod is being synchronized, all the ID3 tags of the songs are checked and if there is some problem with it, it is rectified. Also the iPod requires some time to load the album artwork for the appropriate song. Hence it is normal for the iPod to take long time for syncing.

Go to the BIOS setup of the system and check if the USB 2.0 is enabled or not. The new generation iPod’s communicate on USB 2.0, so if the USB 2.0 functionality of the motherboard is not enabled the communication between the iPod and the computer will take long time and hence the syncing process will be slow. Open the BIOS setup and go to hardware peripherals section. Go to USB configuration and enable the USB 2.0 functionality. Save the settings and check the sync time of the iPod.

The best way to solve this type of problem is to install the latest version of the iTunes on the computer and update the firmware for the iPod. All the bugs which are related to the old firmware and the iTunes are solved in the latest version. Hence updating the firmware of the iPod and the iTunes will really help in solving the problem.

Disconnect the iPod from the computer and find the following folder on the computer.

Go inside the folder and delete all the files inside the folder. Afterdeleting all the contents of the folder, connect the iPod and sync it with computer. See if the problem persists.
