I think I broke my iPod, what do I do now?

I took my iPod touch (2nd generation) to the beach and got sand. Now, the button power switch does not work unless you push it really hard. In addition, the external speaker is playing scratchy music-like. (I read somewhere to take it to the Apple store. What would it cost to fix it?)
