Instead of comparing and contrasting all the features and benefits of the iPod Touch over other multimedia players (read the other reviews/novels), I’ll get right to the point. With the right mobile phone, the iPod Touch can surpass an iPhone. The “right” mobile phone is one which runs software that converts its 3G internet connection to Wi-Fi, such as JoikuSpot (Symbian S60 powered) and WMWifiRouter (Windows Mobile powered).
With my Nokia N95-4, JoikuSpot, and an Apple iPod Touch 32 GB (3rd Generation), I have greater functionality than an iPhone 3GS at considerably less expense. Just about every iPhone app also runs on the iPod Touch. I do use AT&T and the MEdiaNet data plan, but other carriers’ data plans should also work. This means anyone can have the iPhone’s functionality using the iPod Touch with the right phone and software.

Touch iPod 3rd Generation – My First iPod
I was really disgusted when i first opened the box and tried to power the iPod to find out that it will not work if i don’t connect it to a pc with iTunes. This is ridiculous! Period!
Compound to that the fact that you cannot open a “free” iTunes account unless you give a credit card regardless if you plan or not to purchase anything.
compound to the above the fact that you cannot upload download music between a pc and the iPod unless it is in the one and only computer that it has “bonded” with. I actually did not believe it could be the case until I reached an apple customer service person who told me that Ii could not take my music I loaded in the iPod at home and copy it on my office computer.
These facts all felt extremely unfriendly and targeted to exploit the owner of the device.
Well thank God for Hackers and their ingenuity to come and solve the problem for free.
It is a pity that such a marvel of engineering and design is partnered with such an exploitation of money making business.
